Health issues I have been thinking about lately.

I was reading in People Magazine a couple of weeks ago about a little boy that had an undiagnosed disease. He came down with it at 2 years old. As far as the Drs. knew, he was the only one to ever have it. He was the first. His symptons started out as blindness then paralysis in his lower extremeties. The little boy died at 4 years old, and now his 2 year old brother is displaying the same symptoms. He is under going frozen plasma transfusions once a week in hopes of 'flushing' his system. Truth is they simply do not know what to do about it and it is a hit and miss treatment.
Think about the ramifications here. I know research is being conducted and great strides are taking place in the medical field...but are we really keeping up?

Mutated genes
Enviornment
Lack of funding
Lack of interest
Lobbyists for pharmacutical companies that extole treatments for popular diseases.
Lack of Knowledge.
Tests not yet capable of detection
Recreational drugs' long term side effects
Perscription Drugs with unknown long term side effects
Globalization
Animal to human transfer of disease
Drug resistent bacterial infections
More virulent viruses
Research hospitals take only 'treatable' cases....to keep their sucess rate elevated thus increasing funding and accreditation.
Lack of HealthCare Insurance

Nothing is more frightening than having Dr. after Dr. shake his head and admit they do not know.
Confessing that they are doing the best they can and treat only symptoms because the root cause eludes them.
I know it is *better than it used to be.* (Even though 97,000 people die a year due to medical blunders alone.)
But are we really better off?
Alot of cures in the past were due to common sense issues taking foothold.
Today even our houses could be our enemy.
