Touching that 3rd wire isn't healthy. Telling people things they don't want to hear is never popular. Whenever I drag out the refrain of personal responsibility for everything including sickness, so-called incurable diseases and why one get's fired or one's house burns down - I get looked at like a leper. A filthy, corrosive, dripping with disease leper.
Heck, Lindy & Jody already jumped all over me for "inhumanity" because I pointed out that many indians have an unsavory history and that illegal aliens from Mexico are a major problem. One just has to see how strongly Michelle Malkin is despised, to see how unpopular railing about illegals has become. The truth is no longer acceptable in polite company. And why? Fear. Unbridled and justified fear of the consequences.
We've become a nation that is paralyzed by fear. No one wants to be the little guy in the weightroom shouting "You lunkheads are drooling all over the equipment it's starting to rust!" We've seen race riots in LA just because the law didn't come down on their side. We've seen the police powerless and national guard units employed to try and get wild, violent "average citizens" under control. We've watched Muslims murder film-makers and nuns, simply because of cartoons of Allah or a film that points out Islamic violence. We've We've watched thousands of Illegals parade through the center of Phoenix, LA and other cities waving the Mexican flag, stoping up traffic, getting the kids to leave their schools and basically proving that what folks fear - pandemonium - is all too likely a result of exposing and mass publicizing such truths.
Slate is in for trouble. I suspect they will end it all up with an apology and a head on a stick before its over. 95% of the races Slate has just declared "inferior" vote straight handout democratic every election. An article like that is simply untenable. At the same time the racists on the right side of the aisle will jump on it, defend it, and generally succumb to the trap Slate probably thinks it is trying to set up for these folks.
Bringing out the race card, when Obama is running is an obvious swipe at Obama. I can't believe Hillary's team, as dumb as they are, would be behind such a convenient "statistical unveiling" at one of the liberals favorite website. Obama's folks would risk it backfiring if it didn't consume Clinton. So that leaves someone else with an agenda.
Sure it will be "entertainment" for some and will surely increase Slate's sagging ratings, but usually the powers that be avoid a discussion of race and intelligence like the plague. It's got to be an oversight that will shortly be amended and apologized for.
It HAS to be.
Even if tomorrow's part reveals all sorts of counter-statistics and quotes from eminent geneticists from UCLA, UCI and elsewhere, the damage is still done.
Anything else would unravel into the pandemonium we all fear. Folks that pull the strings on both sides of the aisle wont let it stand. Truth isn't always just unpopular, it's dangerous. Dividing and profiting is the media's specialty - but they try to do so subtly, not with a brick in the head.
PS
This sort of thing is right up Doctor Doom's alley. Anyone spot a Latverian editor at Slate? ;-)
