Outside of the White tourist resort enclaves, the Bahamas is a fairly run down and poor area. The shanty towns and slums aren't shown on the tourist brochures. And when has New Orleans ever been a "gem"? It's been a crime infested cesspool for decades. It constantly ranks among the most dangerous cities in America.
