There was no talk (that I remember) about lifting sanctions or no-fly zones?
It turns out Saddam had no "robust, stubborn and dedicated nuclear weapons program". The "swamp" was dry when we got there. Saddam used the camouflage of WMD to cover his lack of power from the world and his own military.
I never bought into this "free a people" slogan. It's not our place to traipse around the planet bringing US style democracy to other countries. Assisting people in their own fight for freedom and against tyranny is a different. It appears that handing people freedom is a gift that might never be opened.
2003 most likely had something to do with Iran's nuke program but we're just prolonging the inevitable. What do we do when they are getting close?
Yeah, it would be nice to wipe all nations that threaten us- off the map. Rid ourselves of our enemies (Wolfowitz Doctrine). Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea, Russia, China- gone. I don't think we'd w accomplish our goal and probably destroy ourselves in the process
