Saddam really seemed to value his own ass and it's pretty much been proven that any country that would attack the US with a nuclear weapon would be littered with burnt asses.

So let's say worst case happened and old Saddam did build a true nuke. Who would his target be? Hmm, just maybe his primary focus would be his old nemesis Iran. Think about it. It'd be the one country he could probably get away with nuking that the US wouldn't have a hissy fit over.

With all the bluster you guys have over the threat Iran poses, you'd think you'd all be in favor of letting those guys wipe each other off the map.

Let's get this out into the clear again. No country that does not believe it can completely wipe out the US in a nuclear strike, is going to lob one over at us deliberately. It's absolute suicide. North Korea is probably the closest to a true looney running things and even he can't bring himself to doing it. Other than for total thermo-nuclear war and maybe an act of absolutely covert terrorism it's a stupidly ineffective weapon. Even with the latter they're very traceable as to country of origin.

If Saddam had one when we invaded do you think he'd have used it on our advancing troops? Hell no. He'd know it would wipe out a sizable amount of his country. It wouldn't change the outcome of the conflict. We'd still win overwhelmingly and it would cause people to tear him limb from limb once they caught up to him.
