The song doesn't live up to the visuals

I agree with you about the power of those visuals: The historical continuity of vessels named Enterprise, personages such as Yeager and Amelia Earhart, and especially
Al Shepard's big grin as he suited up for the Moon, the future-historical bridging of CGI spacecraft in the intermediate future, all of it was powerful and moving. Yet, to me the contrast with the sappy song lyrics was discordant. "I got faaaaaith of tha' heaaaaart" sounded shallow by comparison.

Not that I'd have wanted them to stick with the tired old John Williams "marching arm in arm through space" orchestral anthem genre. I tend to agree with Carl that the Voyager and DS9 themes showed more musical sophistication. Speaking of marching arm in arm through space, remember the recessional (end credits) theme from Andromeda? As soon as I heard it I started singing to myself "We're the High Guard, we're marching, baby, marching, arm in arm through space, we're marching..." ad nauseum. There's an example of an instrumental theme so attuned to the show it's decorating that the lyrics practically write themselves, and sure enough the credits gave the theme title as "March of the High Guard". The Enterprise theme, to me, lacked that strong connection to its show or even the simultaneous visuals. If you had heard the song first, separately, before seeing Enterprise, could you have possibly imagined it as the theme for a science fiction TV show?
