Granted, the matte paintings and shaky rocks that moved when hit were the best FX of the era, but the Planet Killer and the Guardian props were just secondary tools to be used in weaving the plotlines and the actors to play off of. MUSIC and the Funky lighting gels were awesum, too. The tension of Kirk stranded on the battledamaged starship and Decker siezing command of the E tourque up the suspense the first time I saw it in the 60's, Ditto for the City/Forever episode. Later series used CGI to excess , ENTERPRISE being guilty of it. And the lame way Enterprise was woven into TNG storyline with Riker and Troy, well, the producers had to have a way out and they took it. Naw, I'll remain true to TOS and re-visit them on DVD and TV
