"Tales of Brave Ulysses, ...how his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing..."
I've had one very realistic and elaborate auditory hallucination, (Gregorian chants!) while on a midwatch at the helm of a yacht at sea, but this can be easily explained away as fatigue and the sensory deprivation of a monotonous environment.
The music was absolutely beautiful, but I'm not sure I'd like to undergo the experience again. It was creepy. I've also experienced a few olfactory hallucinations, also quite pleasant, but never any visual ones.
Verrry occasionally, I hear a voice, not an actual auditory sensation, more like an unexpected daydream. But it doesn't say much, usually it's just my name, in a pleading, sad feminine voice...You can put any interpretation on that you like.
You never know what might bubble up unbidden from the depths of the old lizard brain.
