The auditory nerve is capable of being reached by signals and well honed thoughts, if the person has your number.
One is more susceptible in the sleep-state or semi-wake state to messages from astral entities and not just voices, but fully fleshed out thought-trains.
The world is still way behind on the acceptance of these forms of communication. It's still a century or more away.
Let me guess...your mom was having difficulty with one of the caretakers at her home and wanted someone to check in...and make them aware she was still looked after?

Mental telepathy is possible, husbands and wives do it a lot after about 40 close years. Visitations by angels or their real equivalent is also possible. As for talks with God, I'm afraid you're out of luck - no single deity of such a nature exists, though LOTS of negative astral folks claim to be God as they whisper in unsuspecting folk ears.
