Remember that JFK didn't actually get much done, and his inexperience led him to be challenged (effectively so) by elements within the military, Whitehouse and elsewhere in Washington. Lets not forget the Bay of Pigs and the Missile Crisis- and how perhaps a more wizened and savvy experienced politician may not have made some of those blunders.
JFK is worth 'hero material', don't get me wrong. But I wonder how much of his vision would have endured, much less been enacted into legislation, if it were not for his horrific martyring death and the subsequent rise to power of skilled, toughened back-room politician reeking of the smoke filled rooms he had operated in all his career.
Obama may be cut in the Kennedy cloth- albeit even less experienced and connected... But Hillary is an operator. Obama stirs me when he speaks, and I find myself having a hard time looking at Hillary without a bad taste in my mouth. BUT- The 'Billary' track record is clear: Effective, willing to go down fighting for what they believe in (Remember Health care? Gays in the military? Of course they lost- but in losing perhaps they actually won? Perhaps those losses made these things inevitable). Champions of the middle class, even though they know how to toss meaty bones to the rich and powerful when they need their help.
I would love an Obama presidency, in a naive sort of way, it would please me. But the person with the skills, plentiful long-knives, smoke filled rooms and all out connections to pull our country back form the brink and put the spine back in the left is Hillary.
The Left will not stand against the puffed-up moral outrage of the right- even as they control both houses of congress they fawn and simper and act like a small-bit minority power. We have enough 'feel good' operators on the left passing out pretty speeches but ultimately being unable or unwilling to get filthy and muck out the cow pen. We need a whip, not another charismatic. We need a lightening rod, not another limp noodle. Sure, Hillary is a polarizing entity, but who the hell said thats a bad thing? Reagan was polarizing. Bush II was polarizing. Clinton was polarizing.
I will vote for Obama, and be secretly happy if he wins. But I know this is a time for a ice cold bitch who not just spins a prettier speech than her opponents, but breaks them and leaves them like a tail-less newt (gringrich) squirming on he has-been pile.
Listen to Rush. Hell, Listen to Tom B! There is no one who will bring them around and there is no politician or charismatic who will build a big enough boat to sail with them on board. The right will not compromise, they have designed it into their political ideology. It is folly to court those who despise you and view you as a traitor and equate you to Stalin for simply disagreeing with them. The idea that Obama will build a boat large enough is, well, silly.
So, in the end- Hillary has the steel we need and the foreign policy experience we need. Obama doesn't. Obama is a pretty face, a good orator and not much else.
