Countdown
Countdown was about the Moon (much closer), and it was fiction.
Perhaps the idea had crossed the mind of few, in the real world, but from the beginning, Apollo would do it, not Gemini. And even if an idea comes up, you need to test it, convince lots of people.
The closest it got was with Gemini 11 and the high orbits!
