If the standard you want to move the goalposts to is unanimity, then thats an impossible standard to meet, and you know its a ridiculous standard to call for! That is a standard that evolution, gravity, and the round earth dont meet!

I'm also aware that a scientist that doesn't agree in today's environment, no matter WHAT the dissenting opinion, pretty much can kiss his career goodbye as far as dealing with the major journals and organizations is concerned. I've watched it happen. That does tend to make achieving a consensus a bit easier. Scientists have dropped out of things like the IPCC when they don't like the direction things are going. Eventually, only one set of opinions is left. That makes consensus easier, too. There is more than one way you can look at the concept of peer review.
The Intelligent design loons love to point to a few names of people that disagree with evolution, and they too love to claim that those that disagree with evolution are silenced by the academic community. Am I supposed to accept that argument from you?
The loons claiming that we never went to the moon also make similar arguments- its all a conspiracy with sinister forces silencing dissent... nasa threatens the careers of thousands of scientists that might speak out- JUST LOOK AT HOW THERE ARE NO WORKING SCIENTISTS AT NASA CLAIMING THE MOON LANDING WAS FAKED!!!
