Another possible reason why

You just don't want to go there.

You feel a lot safer sticking to the AGW argument. It's nice, hard science and numbers.

If you move beyond it to the political realm, it gets a bit harder to avoid the obvious conclusion that a lot of organizations and political entities around the world are mining this issue for loot and power, that the solutions they are pushing hardest will be disastrous for the economy and our standards of living, and that nations like China and India will end up laughing at us as we cut our own legs off.

The only solution I ever hear from most AGW proponents on this issue is destruction of the energy system we have, and replacing it with some mythological "new technology." Said technology, of course, can be had the same way all earthly miracles in any issue can be had in their liberal religion: by just giving the Almighty State enough money and power. Details can be hammered out later when they've set up the mechanisms to drain the private sector of wealth.

It takes only a short time to work out that America's total energy needs are not going to be met solely by windmills, tides, and solar power. You personally may be pro-nuclear, but believe me, you are in very limited company. Hydroelectricity is also out of favor now. I suspect that the moment large energy companies start building thermal solar plants in the desert, there will be these same people trying to stop it to protect some tortoise or something.

If you have other, more hopeful numbers, point them out. "And then a government-funded miracle occurs" should not show up in your equations.

In short, as with so many other issues, the liberals have nothing to actually offer in the way of solutions, but as long as they're beating endlessly on what's currently being done, in this case attacking oil companies, industries, transportation networks, and energy producers, nobody will notice.
