Correct. I do not accept the definitions you used, although I don't doubt that they are correct English usage. I believe some people ARE better than others, either brighter, more ambitious, stronger, braver, or more capable of metabolizing carbohydrates or tasting certain compounds.
People are not identical, they are all different, and recognizing you have some quality that makes you superior (in your opinion) to others is certainly human. What I don't think is that just because some people are gifted in some way makes them more eligible for some of the benefits of society than those who are not. Of course, everyone claims to believe this, but history and experience tells us otherwise.
As for me personally, my definitions of elitism are based on what I think is valuable in a human being. I respect intelligence, education, culture, scientific and artistic accomplishment and curiosity. I have little or no admiration for athletic prowess, business acumen, or aquisitiveness. I respect ambition, but not competitiveness. I admire moral courage, but feel physical courage is highly overrated. And I treasure empathy over cunning. I admire enthusiasm and playfulness, and loathe pomposity.
I don't claim to have all these qualities I consider noble, nor do I claim I lack those I don't. But if I feel I am superior in some characteristic to others, I am under no obligation to convince myself I'm not. That's what I consider elitism in myself. And although I may be mistaken about my own virtues, I certainly am not ashamed of them.
