re: Why are Liberals considered *elitists*??

Because they have lots of money, control giant corporations, and lobby government and bribe candidates into passing laws which favor their financial interests. Or at least, they like to think they could do that if it wasn't for their political opponents who are always engaged in conspiracies to frustrate their legitimate interests and their god-given rights.

Then again, maybe it's because they're generally better educated and less competitive than their enemies and tend to have more diverse and eclectic interests than their political opponents. This exposes them to the charge of "intellectual", which in this country, is considered close to effeminacy and which is a sure way of smearing someone in the eyes of certain constituencies of their political opponents.

"Elitists" replaces the formerly used, and now obsolete, term of "class traitor", because everyone knows there are no classes. It is a prime example of how skillful and unprincipled propagandists can distract attention from their crimes by accusing their opponents of precisely the behavior they feel is appropriate and natural for them, and them alone.
