I recently started taking the bus. I figured at 3.70 a gallon (1 month ago) it cost me $10 per day to get to and from work. If I take the bus it costs me $6/ day ( I still have to drive 10 miles each way to catch the bus) including bus fare. I'm even thinking about buying a decent bicycle this summer and using that to catch the bus and reduce my daily commute cost to $2 / day.
Everywhere around me people are taking steps to reduce their gasoline consumption. Gone are the days when you can drive 5 miles over the speed limit on the freeway. Now your lucky to go the speed limit on a work day. The ironic thing is, now that I'm on a bus and have to make a connection my road frustration has gone up significantly when following slow pokes conserving gas in the early morning. If I miss the connection it means I have to drive all the way in.
