I have to admit to feeling a bit immune, though I'm driving more now.
The trips I've taken are recreational, and if I had a budget the fuel would be in the budget. My newer-to-me van got 22 MPG today, and is large enough to sleep in comfortably. I have even higher hopes for the chair-bed I got from IKEA tonight. Being able to stay in the van is not only convenient but saves a significant sum. About every 4th day I check into a cheap motel, shower and wash clothes.
I ride a bicycle to the store for routine things. If I'm out on the farm, 55 miles away, I stay for a while and the longest trip is to the country store for coffee in the morning with the old guys. Seriously, at 67 I'm the youngest in the circle. As for my heating and cooling bills, I live in a daylight basement which is about 1/2 underground. The climate is mostly moderate and heat is wood and cooling is fans. Minimal cost.
And, frankly, the cost of fuel is a bit of a concern. A fill-up today, 17 gallons, was $72. That is a bunch of money, enough to warm the cockles of any Texas oilman, or even one from Wyoming.
It's nice that someone enjoys that part of the economy. "It's an ill wind which blows no one good."
