I more or less stopped arguing heavy political philosophy with Robert when he pretty much labeled every authoritarian society in history as "conservative." Some of the ghastliest societies on this planet were not the result of people trying to enforce old traditions, but people trying to bring humanity into some imagined bright new age--usually at gunpoint. Off the top of my head, this includes communism (various Great Leaps Forward, Cultural Revolutions, Pol Pot, and others) and the French Revolution. Others might have more suggestions.
By the way, has anybody noticed that deep analysis of these issues by liberals like Haidt and others tend to rapidly devolve into exercises in liberal self-congratulation? But hey, what do I know. I'm from Dumbfuckistan.
I also noticed that his data charts were based on surveys filled out by people who were analyzing themselves, and might not reflect an objective viewpoint. I pointed that out in a comment on the film site.
