That's reassuring

UCF is not that far from USF, just a 2 hours away on I-4. I was just concerned that this new rash of online and commuter universities, in their rush to train the technocrats the machine needs, was seriously shortchanging the value of an ecumenical and cross-disciplinary education--especially now that the official new philosophy in Florida higher education is teaching kids "not how to think, but what they need to know".

Even more so than my year on a Navy destroyer, or my year working overseas, my university education was the most influential and educational time of my life, and I'm not just talking about my major, either.

BTW, have you visited Florida Southern College in Lakeland? There is some striking Frank LLoyd Wright architecture there.
