FYI, the Univ. of Central Florida-in Orlando-runs on going series of lectures with some very excellent speakers. The graduate department of Political Science seems to feature the best and most controversial and stimulating speakers.
The difference you might note is the size of the lecture hall accomodates probably less than 200. Interaction is greatly encouraged and the discussions become quite animated at times.
So while the size of the audience may be reduced the spirit of investigation and exploration is intact. Yes, binge drinking, saturnalia's continue, football games enthuse and, in short, all those things you fondly remember still happen. The scale of some events may have changed, the tempo of the dance my have varied, but, all in all, the more things have changed, the more they have stayed the same.
Don't worry about the old farts. They are simply being supplanted by a crop of young farts, who in turn will grow old too.
