The bar is low and the stakes very, very high for Palin. Reminds me of Nixon "Checkers" speech.

Way back when in a different iteration of the US and it's political processes, Richard Milhous Nixon was under the gun. He had a reputation of being a rather sleazy politician and a dirty campaigner. Accused to taking illegal money, he responded with his Checkers speech. At stake was nothing less than being dropped as the VP running with Eisenhower.

Nixon performed brilliantly. Good speech, I remember listening to it as we didn't have TV at the time. I thought it was too slick, too smooth, too corny but the country bought it.

And, I'll bet, there is at stake for Palin the VP spot. If she does poorly I'll bet she'll be dumped as I noted in a previous post. She'll all at once need to spend time with her kid(s), Alaska's calling, "Dude" asked her and as spiritual head of the household she's obligated, whatever. However, if she does as well as she can with the smaltzy, meaningless feelgood sound bites, the stuff of cheerleaders, she will create a bump up. And be safe.

As for Biden, he should just shut the hell up.
