Markets that behave in ways that are suboptimal to the interests or perceived needs of a Market Fundamentalist are of course only at cross purposes because they have been interfered with. IE: they must be purified.
Just look at the convoluted logic that tries to link Fannie/Freddie to the cause of the MBS mess- You end up trying to blame organizations that never originated sub-prime loans, did not broker sub-prime loans and purchased about 20% of all outstanding sub-prime loans with the fall of the entire MBS market- not because the causal connection is there, but because it was the only entity in the entire equation that actually was regulated by government.
It gets stupid real fast, as do a lot of conversations with the once-impressive Tom Brosz.
Whats he down to? Media conspiracy and Bill Ayers?
'nuff said.
