Who's doing the projecting, TB? You seem to be the one to be projecting, but not your hopes--your fears.
Read my post carefully, I'm not talking about Obama at all, or his alleged intelligence, or even about politics. What the post is about is what I perceive as an American cultural trait and how I believe it is changing for the better. As evidence for this I cite the fact of his election, I make no claims as to his suitability for the job, or even about his intelligence, in fact, I claim just the opposite: I do not know and I cannot know. I could just as easily picked someone else who is perceived as an intellectual who is now embraces by a majority as my example. I just couldn't think of any.
Sure, I will not deny these thoughts did not affect my decision as a voter, but that's another post altogether, one on an entirely different topic.
John Kerry did not publicize that he was fluent in French because his advisers actually felt that would be a liability in his campaign. That is so sad. John McCain is a bright guy too, he went to a top college and flew jets off aircraft carriers, and he's run an air wing and been successful in national politics for 30 years. He defeated all the front runners in the Republican primaries and got almost half the American electorate to vote for him. He must have something on the ball, he may very well be a lot smarter than Obama, but the point is he, in my opinion, did everything he could to not draw attention to it. That is sad, not for Mr McCain, but for the rest of us.
