Off Topic » in reply to China is just another Capitalist Oligarchy

The trick is realizing...

That this is the inevitable end result of collective economics, not an aberration.

There is really no essential difference between "private" ownership in current China and government ownership. Same people, same methods, same economic ideas, same results.

Simply crossing off the government's name from the pink slip of a factory and writing in the name of the government official that used to run that particular bureacracy changes nothing. People wondered why the Soviet Union's "privatization" failed on so many levels. Basically, that little bit of paperwork was all they did. Read Charter 08. These people know the difference between reality and words.

I continue to be amazed at how broad a spectrum the word "capitalism" seems to be covering nowadays. Like the word "fascism," it appears to be devolving into a term that has little meaning except as a pejorative buzzword. This is useful for anti-market types who rely on the destruction of definitions to make their arguments work, and helps keep people from seeing the historical evidence of their own eyes.

I'm waiting for someone to call North Korea "capitalist."
