What amazes me is the extent to which people here can keep reconstructing reality to match their internal agenda.
It was grossly evident that Kerry was an empty suit, with very little to recommend him as Commander in Chief in 2004. One obvious indicator of this is that the man has dropped almost completely off the national scene since then. Certainly he doesn't seem to be considered a Democratic leader at this point. That, and his attempt to ride into office as a military hero--Bush didn't force him to "report for duty"--struck a raw nerve based on his long post-military career as an anti-military activist. It was fascinating to see the 180-degree Democratic snaparound on military heroism in the 2008 election. No fixed principles, just gang colors.
I never saw Obama as anything more than a lemming retrieval service poised right next to the brink like a Pied Piper with a better sounding flute. I and many others knew that he had to say many of the things he did to stop the stampede. Once the mindless were back nibbling grass in the pasture he could begin to actually implement some of the things. I'll consider it a successful term if he accomplishes 10% of what he promised. I'll consider it wildly successful if we can get an efficient form of universal single-payer health care.
This is hilarious. Oh, you knew it all the time! Of course all the smart Democrats knew Obama was bullshitting the electorate. That all the "hope" and "change" was so much smoke being blown up the electorate's skirts. And of course all the smart Democrats knew he wasn't going to pull off more than a fraction of anything he was talking about.
You can make me look like a dork by pulling up just one thing you wrote, anywhere, prior to the election, indicating anything of this sort. And I'm not talking about "wow, I hope he can do all this!" kinds of things. I'm talking about the knowledge that Obama was blowing smoke. I don't recall seeing any other liberals or leftists on the internet or in the media making that point either.
This liberal went to the work of charting Obama's promises. You might want to copy it off and print it out. Over the next year or so you can mark off the ones he delivers on.
