This wasn't a surprise. This wasn't something that "sneaked up" on Obama.
As far back as September it was clear to anyone who gave it any thought that Obama couldn't possibly deliver on what he was promising, either in foreign policy or the economy.
And yet, all the usual "progressive" campaign promises were made, in the teeth of the crisis, which seems to indicate that Obama is either not very honest or not very bright.
I know for certain that the liberals on here were certainly not wishing for bombings in Baghdad or fuel prices to skyrocket just so we could get political capital because rejoicing about that kind of stuff meant you had no compassion for the people it affected.
Horse manure. I can point out several who routinely became orgasmic whenever there was an economic or military setback over the past eight years. You can go to the CE board and find examples now.
You find the rarified atmosphere of "progressive" self-congratulation and perceived moral superiority invigorating, I'm sure, but too much of it can begin to cause mental deterioration.
