In order to get the gravitational and tidal interactions that lead to ejection (or INjection to the local sun), you need to have actually formed a planet. it need not be FINISHED forming, but it needs to be well on the way, so there is, indeed, a genuine possibility that interstellar space has some true "wanderers" out there, but they'll be few and far between...
