CO2 vs temperature

" If temperature changes alter CO2 levels, this question has several possible answers. If CO2 levels cause the high temperatures, not so much."

I can think of at least one reason off the cuff:

High CO2 levels produce high temperatures which result in large-scale die-offs of parts of the ecosystem that release CO2 - if forests turn to desert, they may produce a lot of CO2 at first as plant matter decays, but then when the climate and organisms adjust, there is a bloom of CO2 absorbing organisms - algae, new types of plants in modified climatic zones.

In any case, those kinds of changes will take a long time to bring things back into balance, whereas changes producing spikes in CO2/temperature can result from a positive feedback mechanism that changes things very rapidly. Organisms die off much faster than they move and adapt to new climatic conditions.
