An Anglo-American relationship does inherently possess a few landmines in the customs and family department. There is a formal 'distance' in many European families that a tightknit American family will not quite be accustomed to. There's also certain lingering sexist views about male/female roles. It's not as bad with Englishmen as it is with some European males, but generally European males are not quite as "enlightened" as the American male.
