a huge jump forward in technology shown by the military garnered from reverse-engineering a captured spaceship.
That simply hasn't happened. All the newest gear we're seeing is pretty much updates on conventional technology. We're still using conventional fuel jets and rocket engines to move around, no anti-gravity or warp technology. Come on. Are we that inept that we wouldn't have figured out the Roswell craft technology by now? There's no way after all those years that we would have sat on it. The egos of the military could never keep something like that contained.
In order for them to do the reverse-engineering they would have to have included real top-tier scientists, guys that traditionally are really bad at keeping their mouths shut.
