You see all your opponents as complete extremists, and the country, even the world, falling rapidly leftward from what you perceive as the center. And you feel that what drives this is a press, entertainment culture and academic system that is hopelessly leftist. We can add to that the scientific establishment because of their insistence on seeing climate change as a threat and ignoring the evidence that is so clear and obvious to you.
You tell us all the entire educated and creative and influential elements of society oppose your policies and embrace politics which you feel are against their own interests, and yet you cannot come point to any central organizing influence that is driving and coordinating this diverse and disconnected multipolar community to march simultaneously in lockstep in the wrong direction. No, I don't think the intelligentsia is always right. But I don't think they are speaking one message with one voice, either. What you see as the left, I see as the center, and from where I stand I can see a left AND a right that scare me equally. You only seem to see one.
The only force which could possibly be behind this alleged sinister shift you constantly allude to, the Socialist movement, is in total disarray and confusion (as even its own True Believers concede), and their manifestations on the international political scene are reduced to a handful of failed third world states and a few isolated thinkers no one, not even their own partisans, take very seriously.
On top of that you are faced with an electoral defeat and a decline in public confidence and internal consistency in your party, and an opposing political leader who is wildly popular. Think of it, a black, lefty unknown with with no experience and a funny name defeats a respected, politically moderate war hero and you don't see a political shift (or perhaps a return to the REAL center).
TB, the only reason the world looks so skewed to you is because you insist on looking at it from only one side.
