"I'd hate to have PROVE everything in my Universe.
Why can't I just experience the magic of it?"
You are like those poets in the days of yore who did not want the
scientists to figure out why and how a rainbow works because they
thought it would destroy the magic of those arcs of color in the sky.
And there were others who were content to assume that God made
them as a peace sign for Noah and all his children and that was it,
because the Bible told them so.
But science did figure it out and yet rainbows did not go away, nor did
they become bland or less interesting, and plenty of people to this day
still find them fascinating without having a clue or care as to how or
why they work.
There are those of us who like and even need to know why and how
things work. When we do find out, it not only does not diminish the
object of our curiousity, it makes it even more interesting and in the
process we discover even MORE mysteries to unravel.
"He would bore me to death."
Only you would call Stephen Hawking boring and "limited".
Have you read the man's works by and about him? You may not care
for him as a person or even his ideas, but he is not boring. And he
frequently thinks outside the box of mainstream science, as further
evidence that he is not limited. The guy has surmounted ALS for almost
50 years, you think he's the type to stick to convention?
It is a shame that there has to be this divide in the culture between the
sciences and the arts/humanities. Both can exist and compliment each
other, certainly far better than science and religion, which are not as
compatible as some apologists would like to have us think.
Reread what I posted about Hawking with what I said above and see if
you get the point being made now.
