I understand... but at Wakulla, they are dealing with people who by and large did not make it past the 6th grade. Parents as a guiding force is obviously a non issue. Where should *anyone* begin with this type of mindset?
...and you mention the Golden Rule...what if *their* Golden Rule is to do to others first...before they have it done to them?...*especially* if they are victims of parental abuse. To them their higher power were their parents.
They have to be taught from *the beginning*...and where is the beginning for criminals?
There has to be an intervention of sorts.
They have been taught that love is conditional...at least allowing religion in [and it would be a very basic premise I would think,] is to teach an unconditional love...something foreign to them.
Teaching them of a higher power can free them up to begin to address their problems..that they are responsible for their actions. It is a beginning.
Pretty basic stuff. We are not talking college credit courses here.

- History shows religion is the world's worst source of "ethics".
- As opposed to what?
- Pre-selected populations with prior behavior requirements are bound to do better. Faith has nothing to do with it.
