Why do some people always look for exotic solutions to mysteries?

David F Mayer — 7/13/2009 1:29:42 PM (archived)

The Internet is filled with nonsense pages which attempt to explain such questionable phenomena as UFOs, ESP, Crop Circles, and the like with exotic causes like visits by extraterrestrial intelligence, psychic forces, time travelers, and such concepts.

Why do some people prefer exotic explanations which make no sense to prosaic explanations that do make sense?
