Get off your high horse. It is not attractive. Your nose is so high up in the air, if it rains where you are, you'll drown. This is not an "Us vs. Them" thing where you have to denigrate everyone who is not a scientist. There are a lot of non-scientists who do not believe in UFO's and aliens and crop circles. More than those who do believe, I would imagine. And the rest just don't give a damn. It's unimportant to them.
Frankly, you give too much importance to the beliefs of people with whom you disagree. You're not going to change their minds.
Think of it this way: You never know what wonderful inventions may come out of something like crop circles or the search for fictitious aliens (if they are fictitious--I don't know or care one way or the other. Well, until they knock on my door. Then I'll give them YOUR address if that's OK with you.)
A lot of great inventions happen accidentally when we are looking for something else.
