Sorry, but that's far more believable than the star wars myth. The Soviet Union was broke because its oil couldn't be sold at a high price.
Reagan had to deal with Brejnev, Andropov and Chernenko who didn't move the system. Gorbachev changed it all, all alone. HE is the one who deserves the credits.
