The Reagan Myth isn't just a matter of taking credit for things other people did, in some cases it involves turning Reagan completely on his head. A recent example: Latter-day Reaganauts would have you believe that he was a fierce hawk who was just itching to nuke the snot out of anybody who looked at him crossways. But how do you square that with the facts, such as Reagan's withdrawal from Lebanon after the bombing, or that his sole military adventure consisted of conquering a Carribbean medical school, while in the same time period refusing demands to invade Panama to get Noriega (that job was left to Bush I)?

So, not to worry, if things go wrong, the Reagan Myth will simply be retailored to fit the political agenda of the current rightwing leadership. No matter what happened in the past, or what will happen in the future, Saint Ronnie will always smile down upon us. Or upon the Right, which is the only "us" that matters...just ask 'em.
