the question presents itself, is the fault an intermittent problem in some of the units (say a malfunction that manifests itself randomly), or is it a common flaw in all units that only appears under specific combinations of circumstances?
i.e., is it a hardware or software problem? in either case, you might test thousands of units, even flawed ones, and not get a failure.
