saving social security is easy. for starters, they should eliminate the top-end cutoff wealthy people get on SS taxes. not only that, the tax should be progressive, the more you earn the higher percentage you should pay. right now its set up just the opposite; above a certain point, the more you earn the less a percentage of your income you pay in SS withholding, even though you still get to collect, whether you need it or not, when you retire. the rich have been getting a free ride on that long enough, a pension for the elderly is good for the whole country, the whole country should contribute. these people built this country, they've earned their rest and their dignity.
people who don't have kids pay for school taxes because its good for the country. married people get a break on their taxes, which is partly subsidized by single people, presumably because it promotes a social benefit. and people who own get interest tax breaks people who rent don't, so why shouldn't the rich contribute to the social security system?
besides, encouraging older people to retire will decrease the pool of the employed, forcing salaries for everyone still working upwards as employers compete for employees. supply and demand, right? let's put it to work for us, for a change.
dig it.
