what is it about the winger mentality that makes it so smug and so self-righteous and so pure? only they love their country and are willing to defend it, only they believe in the right god, only they love their families, only they believe in freedom and liberty, only they hate to pay taxes, have a work ethic, obey the law, are civic-minded and want to punish criminals. and only they are qualified and authorized to cram their message of innate superiority down everyone else's throat. they must surely be ubermensch, the master race, although i imagine they have learned to avoid that particular terminology.

and of course, anyone who refuses to take them at their word must therefore believe just the opposite of what they claim to believe. oooh. the world is sooooo evil and only they can save it. you're damned straight someone needs to keep an eye on these guys, as well as on everyone who makes excuses for them.^

It really seems to chap liberal asses that conservatives feel they have a right to make their opinions known, too. For years, the word "protest" was pretty much synonymous with "leftist."

As for the second paragraph, I've never seen a more blatant case of projection. I can think of only one political ideology that is currently cramming itself down our throats at every level of our lives. Other than in some people's fevered imaginations I don't see a lot of threat to my lifestyle from the sort of person represented in that website. On the other hand, the nation's current leaders are getting ready to screw me over from a half dozen directions at once.

If you really believe in things like defending the nation, freedom and liberty, low taxes, the work ethic, the importance of the family, and real justice for criminals, you're backing the wrong political horse, and if part of you wasn't seeing that, you wouldn't get so damn defensive.
