Not pathetic at all, that's exactly how the USA stole both California and Texas from Mexico; flooded the place with immigrants, then just took over from the rightful owners by declaring "Republics". The rest of the Southwest the gringos took the old-fashioned way, at bayonet point, after the Mexican War.

Paybacks are a bitch, aren't they? History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce.
