Actually, I do agree with you. I also agree with the Arizona governor's decision to strictly enforce the illegal alien statutes. All this crap about racial profiling is just that, crap. If you're looking for a murder suspect with a tattoo, you pick up and question people with tattoos. If some of them are innocent sailors, circus employees, and goth girls, that's just too bad. They should be treated with every respect and courtesy due a citizen, but they still need to be checked out. I believe that illegal aliens are a severe collective threat to the nation, even if as individuals, they also happen to be good, decent people, as I am convinced most of them are.

I understand that if a lawman overhears me speaking Spanish (you can't tell I'm Spanish just by looking at me) then he has every right to question me or look at my papers to make sure I'm not an unauthorized person. In fact, I believe all Americans, visitors and residents, regardless of race or appearance, should carry proper ID and surrender it to the authorities for inspection when asked. After all, not all illegal aliens look illegal. They could be Russian spies, fugitives from Canada, or Scandinavian axe murderers. Hell, my brother has blond hair, as do many other Cuban-Americans! All my people first came to this country as legal aliens, and they willingly expected the same treatment. However, they also expected to be treated with a presumption of innocence. It's the way Americans were treated by the Cuban police.

But I also believe that we're wasting our time building walls or stopping people on the street when we could instead be fining and jailing Americans who offer illegals employment. That's not just "a start"; that is the least we could do to show we're serious about this, and until we do that, we're just talking jive. And I can guarantee you, if we make it risky and expensive enough to hire illegals, they will simply go away, and the legal aliens we do need to pick our crops and clean our streets will be treated with dignity and respect and protection from the law and from the people they work for.
