"Business elite fight hiring law"
(from the article in Arizona Republic" linked to in "some details")

Tom, the very title of the article you linked to tells you who is behind this. Read the article again, this is raw private economic power trying to get its way. Sure, maybe a few Republicans and Democrats are working together on the "right" (actually, the "correct" side as far as I'm concerned) of this, but in general, this law was bad for business and business opposed it hammer and tongs.

Why is that concept so difficult for you to grasp? Businesses tend to do what benefits them. It doesn't take research to figure that out, or why they do it. As for those firms supporting Democrats who are in their favor, is that surprising? They'd support the devil himself if he could help them out. These people don't give a damn about anything but themselves, and politicians on both parties love to take their money and avoid their wrath. That is the very definition of economic power.

The whole point I'm making is that business will do whatever is in their favor, and screw the rest of us. The "free market" isn't preventing this from happening, Arizona companies needed hiring policy regulation in 2007 and they obviously still need it today. And when a few rogue Republicans get carried away with anything inconvenient to the private sector, they get squashed, too. Read your own article, for Chrissakes. I was going to directly quote a few key sentences, but almost every one is an indictment of the private sector in this controversy. I'd have to put the whole page in italics. This is the economic power I'm always accusing business of abusing that you always claim doesn't even exist.

And I'll be willing to bet when the dust settles after all this is over, it will be the first half of the new bill that gets rigorously enforced, not the latter. That certainly seemed to be the case in 2007. Did the hiring of illegals stop back then?

You're losing it, Tom. I can't even understand why you linked me to this piece, it supports everything I'm saying and has given me all the ammunition I needed. Have you already convinced yourself I don't read anything? Or are you so desperate to find something that supports your preconceptions that you misread text in an effort to subconsciously justify them? You can count on anyone else on the Zone reading it will arrive at the same conclusions I have. I am.
