The 2000 election was another well-known election-tilting technique: Recount the votes until you're ahead, then stop. Gore bet on this technique, and lost.
I have never opposed term limits on presidents, and in fact, think term limits wouldn't suck in other national offices.
You are correct that there are many sleazy electoral techniques, gerrymandering being chief among them, and you are also correct that all are well-used by both parties when they're in power. That doesn't make this current gimmick any more palatable.
Conservatives aren't actually a minority in this country. Note that you find a lot of Democrats pretending to be more conservative every election season, but you don't see a lot of conservatives pretending to be more leftist.
