Re: Oh come on ER

Rubbish, Frank. For the Nazis, the Jews were seen as the Banking and financial class, the big property holders, the Capitalist oppressors of honest, hard-working Germans, as well as the Bolshevik leaders of Communism in Russia and Germany (at the same time!).

They were the Nazi's Liberal Elite, as well as their illegal aliens and welfare queens; even the rhetoric was eerily similar. Demagogues need enemies. They need the Other, the Outsider, the Kenyan Makaka, The Ones That Don't Belong Among Us. And when they don't have any, or when they lose them (as when Communists became scarce in the 80s) it is necessary to manufacture them.

Kristalnacht was not just about houses and synagogues, they went after Jewish small businesses, too. They also purged the Jews from their disproportionately high representation in the professions, academia, the arts, letters, government service and all executive and management positions. The Jews were, to the Nazis, not only low life street trash, but the overlords and the bosses and the oppressors. The big businesses they went after with lawyers and legislation.

Fascism needs its enemies. Listen to the rhetoric, "once we get rid of Them, those who don't belong, it will be wonderful again like it was in the good old days, before They messed everything up."

When I say "fascist", I''m not just employing a rhetorical flourish.
