The stumbling block in discussions about this is the ridiculous premise that our budget problems are the result of insufficient taxation. Once you accept this premise, you're screwed.
I have showed many times that government outlays, in constant dollars, have increase enormously just in our own lifetimes. The Federal budget in 1974 was a THIRD of what it is now. Yet back then we had ALL the useful government services we have now, and a robust military to boot.
The premise is false, as is the premise that money in government is somehow better for society than money in the private sector.
When Obama complains about $700 billion in untaxed wealth as money "lost" he is making several assumptions that just aren't true. Don't buy it.
