Let's assume the best case scenario for Republicans. President Obama and Vice President Biden both die within hours of one another, no possibility of enemy action or terrorism, everyone is satisfied its an accident, but they both die. Speaker of the House Boehner becomes President.
The stock market collapses and a world-wide financial panic ensues, and the American economy is on the brink of a catastrophic implosion. The House and Senate, meeting in emergency session, give President Boehner extreme powers to transform the budget into whatever form he chooses to calm world markets and save the American economy. CIA Intelligence determines the rest of the world is so panicky they will probably accept anything remotely reasonable the USA does, as long as it averts global financial meltdown and it is done quickly. OK, so it's a totally unlikely set of circumstances, but this is a thought experiment, so bear with me.
President Boehner and his advisers realize they may never have another chance like this again, to create a budget exactly the way they want it, essentially, a Republican budget, and lets assume the various factions within the GOP, realizing this is their chance if they seize it, quickly agree on and suggest a budget and submit it to the President, who signs it into law. We're not talking a transition or compromise budget, it's the full Monty Republican budget. I'm assuming the GOP gets exactly what they want. The Dems aquiesce; as usual, they can't get out of their own way.
My question is, what kind of a budget will emerge? Give me two options, what you'd like to see, and what would most likely emerge (if the two are not the same). What happens to defense, entitlements, taxes? No doubt spending and taxes will drop, but how much? Describe the fate of key programs in the discretionary area (You know the hot-button issues here, here's your chance to let your fantasy run free). I want to know exactly what we'd wind up with if the Right got essentially everything it wanted.
