Cant' really answer without doing a lot reading.

Here's a good way to picture the budget:

The biggest obstacle is cutting enough without sending our teetering economy over the edge. But most people know we don't have a 40 year timeline.

Social Security:

Raise the retirement age to 69

Start means testing

Remove disability benefits and benefits for children. There was a time not too long ago that these benefits where provided by one's family. Government has taken over the roll of the family and has assimilated the burden.

Defense:
Immediately cut spending from 738 billion to the 2000 budget of 320 billion
Pull troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and call the wars what they are or soon will be, failed experiments.

Eliminate the child tax credit.

Cut federal government salaries 20% across the board. My income has dropped more than that. Many people I know are out of work or have suffered similar losses in income. If government employees don’t like it, they can quite and give their job to someone who needs it.

Cut law enforcement , court, and prison costs by- legalizing and taxing marijuana. I know that's not a budget cut but what the heck.

That’s enough for now I guess.
