Current Events » in reply to WSJ gets it wrong, jobless benefits CUT unemployment

Horseapples.

Where do you think unemployment money COMES from? Obama's stash? Money gets taxed away from businesses and investors and passed out to the unemployed so they can do what? Give it back to the businesses again? Net effect: nil. And that's after filtering it through government of course, so politicians can loudly pat themselves on the back for their "compassion."

And of course all this assumes that the unemployed buy only American products with their checks. Or don't just spend it on rent to make some fat capitalist landlord richer.

If you're going to think about this kind of thing, you have to follow the money all the way up and down the road.

I figured the link would be to a Mark Zandi paper. He's the liberal's go-to guy for anything to show how massive government programs create wealth. I haven't read the Moody's study he quotes, but I suspect the primary math assumption is that the benefits appear out of thin air.
