Outside of WWII, the budget didn't cracked 20 percent in only three years until 1975. Obviously, it doesn't need to be that high for the country to work. I don't think there's been an "understanding" on percent of GDP. What I think has happened is that government has been relatively non-destructive at the lower levels, so nobody was bothered all that much that it kept growing and growing, and creating more and more programs it never needed to create. At some point, the government growth became cancerous, and began to exceed what the free economy could effectively support.
The Democratic answer is to enslave the free economy until it's been completely consumed.
The Republican answer is to cut back the cancer.
I've gone over your tax fantasies at least half a dozen times, and see no point in detailing it yet again.
But take this one item, and actually PROCESS it:
The revenues for 2010, even under this miserable economy, were almost $2 trillion dollars in constant 2005 dollars. Two thousand billion dollars. In constant dollars, this revenue would have paid for the 1975 Federal government twice. TWICE. A trillion dollars in goddam SURPLUS.
And the problem is not enough taxation? Really?
Now Obama's budget (you have the links now) assumes that revenues, again in constant dollars, will be over four trillion dollars by 2021. FOUR trillion. Four thousand billion dollars. About twice what the Federal budget was in the year 2000.
You remember the year 2000, don't you? Your god was on the throne, revenues were only $2.3 trillion, the budget was balanced, and yet the nation was the best possible place it could ever be? You remember that?
And Obama? Obama is planning on spending every damn dollar of that four trillion and STILL end up with a half-trillion dollar deficit.
If revenues rose to eight trillion, twenty trillion, fifty trillion, the Democrats would find a way to blow every damn nickel, and still whine for more.
Your side has gone nuts, Buck. Literally nuts. And you are riding the padded wagon right along with them. Put the damn Kool-Aid down for five minutes and wake up.
